Designing Adult Fantasy Characters for AI Art
Fantasy is the most popular genre in adult anime-style art, and for good reason. It gives you horns, wings, armour, magic and complete freedom over the setting. It also makes it easy to end up with the same generic character everyone else is generating. This guide covers the classic fantasy archetypes, what makes each one read clearly, and how to give your own version a distinct identity.
One ground rule applies throughout: every character here is an adult and should look like one. Fantasy races do not change that. A character described as “a thousand-year-old elf” but drawn with a childlike body is still a depiction of a child, and reputable generators block it. Design adult faces, adult proportions and adult roles.
Start with silhouette
Before colour or detail, a strong character has a recognisable outline. Fill your character in solid black: can you still tell who it is? Fantasy archetypes have built-in silhouette features you can push:
- Elves: long pointed ears, tall and slender lines, flowing hair or cloaks.
- Demons: horns, wings, tails; spiky or curving shapes.
- Orcs: broad shoulders, heavy limbs, tusks, chunky armour.
- Angels: large wings, halos, vertical flowing robes.
Exaggerating one of these elements does more than adding ten small details. See character design basics for shape language in general.
Elves
The elf is the default fantasy archetype, which is exactly why yours needs a twist.
- Variants: wood elf ranger, high elf mage, dark elf assassin, snow elf, desert elf nomad.
- Costume: layered leather and cloth for rangers; embroidered robes and circlets for mages; dark fitted armour with silver accents for assassins.
- Colour: greens and browns read as woodland, white and gold as high elf, purples and silver as dark elf.
- Make it yours: give her a scar, a distinctive weapon, unusual hair (a shaved side, braided with beads), or a profession you do not usually see, like a blacksmith or ship captain.
Prompt example: adult high elf mage, tall, long braided platinum hair, pointed ears, embroidered blue and gold robes, glowing rune staff, ancient library, candlelight, waist-up portrait, fantasy illustration
If you want to see how a generator handles different elf builds and outfits before writing your own prompts, you can browse elf characters on AiNudeGirls for reference, then adapt the ideas into an original design.
Demons and demon women
Demon characters give you the most room for dramatic design.
- Horns: the single most important feature. Ram horns, straight spikes, broken horns, horns with gold caps. The shape alone signals personality.
- Wings: bat-like membrane wings, tattered wings or no wings at all.
- Skin and eyes: red, ash-grey or deep violet skin; slit pupils; glowing eyes.
- Costume: black and red, gold jewellery, ornate collars, high boots, gothic gowns.
The succubus-type demon woman is a classic of erotic fantasy art: an adult, seductive demon with horns, wings and a tail. The design works best when it stays confident and clearly mature. Think queen or noble, not girl. Put the authority in the pose and setting: a throne, a burning cathedral, a moonlit balcony.
Prompt example: adult demon noblewoman, curled ram horns, small membrane wings, long black hair, golden eyes, black velvet gown with crimson lining, gold jewellery, gothic balcony at night, full moon, rim light, painterly fantasy illustration
Orcs
Orcs in modern fantasy art are often written as proud warriors rather than monsters, and adult orc characters of any gender are a popular subject.
- Build: heavy and muscular; height is part of the appeal.
- Features: green, grey or olive skin, lower tusks, scars, war paint.
- Costume: fur, leather, bone and rough iron; asymmetric armour.
- Make it yours: a chieftain with ritual tattoos, a mercenary in salvaged plate, a blacksmith with soot and burns.
Prompt example: adult orc warrior woman, muscular build, olive green skin, small tusks, braided black hair, tribal war paint, fur mantle and iron pauldrons, battle axe, snowy mountain pass, overcast light, full body, fantasy illustration
Angels and celestials
Angels contrast well with demons and work as a pair.
- Wings: large and feathered; try unusual colours or metallic feathers.
- Halo: a ring, a geometric shape, a crack of light.
- Costume: white and gold, flowing fabric, ornamental armour for warrior angels.
- Twist ideas: a fallen angel with darkened feathers, a mechanical angel, an angel in modern clothes.
Prompt example: adult warrior angel, six white wings, golden geometric halo, ornate silver armour, long red hair, holding a spear of light, sunbeams through clouds, low angle, epic fantasy illustration
Other adult archetypes worth trying
- Kemonomimi adults: human characters with animal ears and tails (fox, wolf, cat). Keep faces and bodies adult.
- Dragon-blooded: scales on cheekbones and arms, horns, reptilian eyes.
- Witches and sorceresses: wide-brimmed hats, potion belts, familiars.
- Monster-girl fantasy: lamias, harpies and other hybrid creatures. See anime genres overview.
Costume tips that help the AI
- Name materials: leather, velvet, chainmail, silk, fur. Materials change rendering more than colour does.
- Limit accessories to two or three. AI tends to merge too many small items into clutter.
- Name a colour scheme: “black and gold”, “emerald and silver”. Fewer colours, stronger design.
- Reuse the same costume wording across generations if you want consistency.
Keep it original
Avoid prompting with the names of existing franchise characters. It creates copyright problems, the results look derivative, and you learn less. Describe the qualities you like instead: “a stern knight commander with short white hair and a black cape” gives you something you own creatively.
Design the silhouette, choose the materials and colours, give the character a job and a story. The AI will do better work when you have done the thinking first.
